A List of Dragon Quest Slimes
"Dragon Quest" (named "Dragon Warrior" in America until 2005) is a series of video game console-based role-playing video games. Players must fight a number of fantasy monsters, including droplet-shaped creatures called slimes. Different kinds of slimes appear in various games, some antagonistic and some friendly. Popular with players, slimes even feature in their own spin-off games. An exhaustive list of all the different slimes would fill a book, but most slimes fall into general categories.\tSlimes

The basic slime is a small droplet-shaped monster with a smiling face. Slimes are usually one of the first monsters a player encounters in a "Dragon Quest" game. The first slimes are very weak, have no special powers and are easy for a low-level player to defeat. Standard slimes are typically blue in color. The red slime, also called a she-slime (perhaps implying that standard slimes are male), is essentially the same as an ordinary slime, but are reddish in color and very slightly stronger.

Metal Slimes

Metal slimes, sometimes called metaly, are slimes with a metallic body. They give you far more experience than ordinary slimes -- more than some boss monsters, in fact. They are very rare and hard to defeat because of their very high speed.

Dark Slimes

A dark slime is a cross between the standard slime and a different monster called a drackie. Drackies have bat-wings, fangs, and a vampire-like attack; dark slimes share these characteristics: they are purple slimes with fangs and small bat wings that attack in a vampire-like manner. They are not especially powerful monsters but are harder to defeat than a regular slime.

Healslime, Sootheslime, Medislime and Cureslime

A healslime looks like a floating jellyfish with a blue body and yellow tentacles. They are not especially powerful, although a little tougher than standard slimes. It has the ability to heal its allies. Some monsters can summon healslimes in combat. Sootheslimes are similar to healslimes in that they are jellyfish shaped and can cast healing spells, but they are less powerful. Medislime and cureslime are similar to healslime but are different colors and can heal more damage. A medislime has a yellow-brown body and blue-purple tentacles while a cureslime has a red body with green tentacles.

Gem Slimes

Gem slimes are slimes with gold-colored, jewel-shaped bodies. They wear tiaras. In some games in the "Dragon Quest" series they confer large amounts of experience when defeated; in others, they pay out large sums of gold instead.

Slime Stacks

A slime stack is formed when three slimes unite. They look like a pillar made from three different colored slimes. A slime stack is more powerful than a single slime. When three metal slimes unite they form a metal "medly."

King Slimes

When seven slimes unite they can form a king slime, a giant crown-wearing monster that's a lot more powerful than normal slimes. Note that different forms of slimes can be king slimes; you can encounter king metal slimes or king cureslimes, for instance.

Slime Knights, Slionheart and Shogum

A slime knight is a large green slime being ridden by a miniature knight. They are surprisingly tough opponents, being tough and resilient with some healing magic. You can also encounter dark slime knights and metal slime knights. Slionheart is a boss monster similar to the slime knights. Shogum is a similar boss monster but colored red and black.

Bubble Slime, Liquid Metal Slime

A bubble slime is similar to standard slimes but is more liquid in appearance. There are also liquid metal slimes that have some of the same qualities as the bubble slime but possess the high movement rate and large experience point value of metal slimes. In some spin-off games you can encounter a king bubble slime similar to the king slimes in other games.

Spin-off Game Slimes

The "Dragon Quest Monsters" series is a line of spin-off games where you can breed and fight monsters, including special slimes that you can't find in other games. Examples are shell slime or snaily, a slime with a mollusc-like shell; haloslime or angel slime, a pink slime with angel wings and a halo; and grandpa slime, a large green slime with a white mustache. "Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime" featured a heroic slime called Rocket and his enemy Slival.
